We all know that apparel is a sweet spot for RFID technology, helping retailers like Macys and Walmart to track jeans and other garments. But socks? That’s right, RFID tags are showing up in “smart socks” manufactured by New York-based Blacksocks.com.
By embedding RFID tags into socks, consumers equipped with a reader device and an iPhone app can see how often their socks have been washed, pair them up with the right mate, determine right and left socks, and better yet, locate those stubborn socks when they disappear in the laundry!
The socks cost $189 for a package of 10, which includes the RFID reader.
