Remote construction sites often carry specific challenges for contractors, including muddy and unstable topography that is unsecure for heavy equipment. Quite often, the large platforms that are used to stabilize construction sites in the oil and gas industry are either lost or left at the site upon conclusion of work.
Golden Environmental Mat Service (GEMS) has developed a solution that includes embedding UHF RFID tags into the platforms so their location can be tracked. A large construction site can consume thousands of mats, making for a laborious tracking process when done manually.
“We see a lot of opportunity for tracking other dark assets, or anything that is not visible within an automated system,” says Steve Fisher, CEO and vice president of corporate development at GEMS Services. “We know the matting industry well, but we plan to go into all the other assets out there that are not being tracked.”
