Video: Auto-ID lab founders reflect on the rise of RFID

Last year two of the three founding fathers of the MIT Auto-ID Lab shared the stage at the MIT Auto-ID & Sensing Solutions Expo to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the facility. During the discussion, Dr. David Brock and Dr. Sanjay Sarma discussed the original genesis of The Internet of Things and the MIT Auto-ID Lab, which they founded with Kevin Ashton. The Center served as a launch pad for RFID innovation and was the birthplace of companies like ThingMagic, OAT Systems and others.

Dr. Brock described how he finally saw the light for connecting devices together with RFID tags. Dr. Sarma spoke of how he dismissed RFID the first two times it was introduced to him, but decided to look into the technology when Brock approached him a third time with a theory about using RFID to create the Intermet of Things.

This year’s MIT Auto-ID & Sensing Solutions Expo will be held at MIT on June 13. Click here for more details.
