Breaking News: Walmart, Kohls, JC Penney lead new consortium for RFID item-level retail tagging

A group of retailers including Walmart, Kohls, Macys, Jones Apparel and JC Penney have formed a consortium to spread wider and quicker adoption of RFID item-level tagging for apparel goods within the retail environment.

The announcement is seen as a game-changer in the move to further deploy item-level tagging for apparel goods, and could lead to wider item-level adoption for other product sectors.

“This initiative could change the way the retail industry does business – and could lead to the biggest supply-chain transformation since the introduction of the bar code,” said Joseph Andraski, president & CEO, Voluntary Interindustry Commerce Solutions (VICS), who along with the standards organizations GS1 US and GS1 Canada, are guiding the initiative.
